Why “Palmbräu”?

A brewery in the Kraichgau hills, a journeyman brewer on the road and a few palms in the brewhouse.

Laid tables in the Palmbräu Gasse restaurant

In 1835, Jakob Zorn founded a brewery in Eppingen in the Kraichgau hills. His son Franz had travelled through Italy as a journeyman brewer and brought palm seedlings home with him.

The palms survived the winters in the warm, humid brewhouse. Every summer Franz set them out as a palm garden in front of the inn – it became the “Gasthaus zur Palme”, and the beer became Palmbräu.
